The West Tyrone Educational Partnership involves all of the primary schools in the Dromore area; primary schools from different management types are partnered, pupils then take part in weekly classes in Music, Drama and PE, alternating between the two schools and St. John's. These classes are supplemented by a series of celebration events throughout the academic year at which parents have the opportunity to meet.
This partnership has provided access to key aspects of KS1 and 2 curricular activities for over 600 pupils in the Dromore area, without the support provided by St. John's through involvement in SEP these small rural primary schools would have been unable to provide these vital curricular activities.
The West Tyrone Educational Partnership demonstrates the transformative effect that an effective partnership can have in a small community. Based in the village of Dromore, Co. Tyrone the project provides key aspects of the KS1 and 2 curriculum to pupils of all the primary schools in the locality. St. John's teachers provide expertise and support to the primary schools, in addition to this St. John's provides access to their state of the art sports facilities for PE. However the scope of this partnership extends much further than enhanced educational opportunities for local pupils through their children's participation in the programme, local parents also become involved, attending celebration events, performances etc. This has seen the beginning of the gradual erosion of some of the community barriers that had previously existed in Dromore, a prime example being the increased use of the sports facilities at Dromore by both sides of the community.
