The SEP encourages schools to make cross-sectoral collaborations an integral part of school life, creating enhanced educational and personal development opportunities for everyone involved.

The first group of three year SEP partnerships (SEP1) commenced in September 2007. SEP2 partnerships started in September 2010. The SEP has involved over 100 schools at Post-Primary and Primary level in cross-sectoral collaboration concentrating on substantive, curriculum based activities.
